National NewsThe occasion of the Australian National Big Bore Double, Falling Block and Bolt Action Rifle Competition.
On behalf of the members of the Big Game Rifle Club of Victoria I invite all rifle enthusiast’s to attend the “National, Big Game Rifle Championships”. We will have representatives from all States & Territories as well as International Competitors vying for the position of National Big Game Rifle Champion. In our 25th. year as a SSAA Club, we will be holding the largest shooting and static display of the best Big Game Rifles in Australia. The rifles will include 4 bore, 8 bore, 10 bore, 12 bore and 20 bore; bore rifles. These date form he 1860’s to the modern Holland & Holland Paradox’s of pre World War One. Also many original black powder double express rifles in .577, .500 & .450 bore. will be on show this weekend….. I can smell the black powder now. The modern rifles we will shoot or display are the magnificent “Nitro Express Rifles” of post 1896. These double rifles range in size from the massive .600 Nitro, .577 Nitro & .500 Nitro and include the biggest bolt action .500 Jeffery, .505/ 530 McDonald Magnum, the .416 Rigby .458 Winchester Magnum & .450 Nitro 3 ¼ & the double 450/400’s will be there. The practical .375 H&H, 9.3 X 74R, 400/350 Nitro, 400/360, 9.3 X 62, .318 Westley and many modern calibres will contest the plains game nitro class. Ultra modern rifles & calibres are welcome i.e. 338, 348, 358, 9.3, 9.5, .416 & larger are eligible to compete. Holland & Holland, Rigby, Westley Richards, William Evans, Purdey, Jeffery, Lancaster, Henry, Fraser and many other historic makers will be represented by their rifles. Never will you see these beautiful museum and collector grade rifles in such a variety as you will on the 28th & 29th of July at our BGRC, “Burkes Hunting Lodge”, “Eagle Park” range, Little River, Victoria. The Big Game Rifle Club of Victoria also offers any SSAA members a rare opportunity to shoot many classic or double big game rifle for a reasonable donation to our building fund. Two lucky raffle ticket holders will win (if physically approved) the right to fire the 4 Bore Nitro rifle!!!! This will be available during the luncheon break on the Saturday and on Sunday after the special National “Charging Hunter”, “Silver Trophy” event. This event is open to all SSAA members. Your rifle must be BGRC Group I (.318WR to .400 Nitro min.) to be eligible. We would love to see you at Little River on the last weekend on July. Food available all weekend.
